Before we can talk about how to upgrade, you need to be clear about what you can actually upgrade. The only supported platform you can upgrade to SharePoint 2010 is SharePoint 2007 — and not just any old SharePoint 2007, it has to be at least service pack 2 (build 12.0.0.6421 to its friends) or later.
Upgrade Options:
1. In-Place and 2. Database attach.
